A black bread diet to buy books

At the age of 16, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky went to study in Moscow for three years while diligently frequenting libraries. His father being able to send him only small sums of money, he devoted the bulk of his budget to the purchase of books and equipment for his experiments. This asceticism led him to feed exclusively on black bread to meet his needs.
