Patrick Blackett's exact prediction on white dwarfs

Patrick Blackett predicted in 1947 that white dwarfs possessed a surface magnetic field reaching one million gauss. This hypothesis relied on physical laws stating that a rotating body generates a magnetic field proportional to its angular momentum. The first magnetic white dwarf, named GJ 742, was finally observed in 1979 with an even higher surface field.
