An aviation ace dies while performing farewell aerobatics

Fighter pilot Edgar Kain died on June 7, 1940, during a farewell flight aboard his Hawker Hurricane. Wishing to salute his comrades at the Échemines airfield, he performed low-altitude maneuvers before crashing to the ground. His family learned of the tragedy by telegram two days later, while they were traveling to attend his wedding to Joyce Phillips.
