Jan Garbarek refuses to play jazz standards

Jan Garbarek is a saxophonist who refuses to play a single jazz standard. He favors personal compositions or traditional songs, believing that these standards are not his own. His style thus moves away from traditional American jazz to get closer to a European sensibility focused on melody and silence.
