Honoré de Balzac's fake nobility

Honoré de Balzac added a noble particle to his own surname to give himself an aristocratic veneer. He went as far as having fake coats of arms painted on the carriage he had rented to travel to Vienna. This trip was intended to meet Mme Hańska, with whom he was having a long affair.
