The blue whale is a gigantic cetacean that exceeds in size all other animals that have ever lived on Earth, including the largest sauropod dinosaurs. Its average length reaches 25 to 27 m for a mass of 130 tonnes, with females surpassing males. The largest confirmed specimen measured 33.5 m in length, while the heaviest displayed a weight of 190 tonnes.
