An American aviator becomes an island chief in Micronesia

A crew member of an American Boeing B-29 Superfortress was awarded the titles of honorary citizen, consul, and chief of the island of Fais. His bomber had ditched near this Micronesian island in 1945, leading to honor dances performed by the inhabitants. The aviator returned to the site in 2002, which led the supreme chief Carlos Haruei to confer these high distinctions upon him.
