The unusual reproduction of the blackmouth catshark

The blackmouth catshark is a small shark whose adult females have only one functional ovary. Each year, they lay between 60 and 100 eggs enclosed in sacs provided with coiled horns. The laying takes place on a muddy substrate, with peaks of sexual activity recorded in winter and summer.
