A translation error gave birth to the word telesme

The Liber Hermetis de alchimia uses the so-called vulgate version of the Emerald Tablet, which contains a famous translation error. The translator confused the Arabic word tilasm, meaning talisman, with the Latin term telesmus. This linguistic blunder generated the French word telesme, which became one of the vaguest terms in alchemy.
