The discovery of the Arabic origins of the Emerald Tablet

The Emerald Tablet was only known through Latin versions dating back to the 12th century until the beginning of the 20th century. Two researchers, the English historian of science E.J. Holmyard and the German orientalist Julius Ruska, brought to light the first Arabic versions of this text. This discovery allowed the text to be linked to the alchemical tradition perpetuated by the Arabs after the conquest of Egypt in 640.
