The clumsy flight of the water rail hides great endurance

The water rail is a very discreet bird whose clumsy flight seems ineffective above the reeds. Yet, it covers long distances during its nocturnal migrations, during which it sometimes hits streetlights or power lines. This migratory endurance was proven when specimens ringed in England were found as far as Poland, the Czech Republic and Sweden.
