The recording micrometer reduces astronomer error

The recording micrometer is a device invented in the nineteenth century by the German manufacturer Johann Adolf Repsold. It includes a mobile reticle allowing one to follow a star while switching an electrical circuit to record precise moments. This invention limits the systematic time error of astronomers, although it does not totally eliminate the personal equation.
