Nauru holds a sad world record for diabetes

Nauruans have one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world, with almost 66% of individuals reaching the age of 55 affected by it. This situation follows the impoverishment of the island in the 1990s after the depletion of phosphate ore reserves. This health crisis is also accompanied by a very high incidence of obesity and high blood pressure.
