Antonio Nariño was predestined to tuberculosis

Antonio Nariño is the third child of a sibling group of twelve children born in Santa Fe de Bogota. His birth was assisted by the Spanish doctor José Celestino Mutis who diagnosed a thoracic malformation in the newborn. This physical peculiarity predisposed him to serious illnesses such as pulmonary tuberculosis and dropsy, requiring care based on sarsaparilla prescribed by Mutis.
