The alleged purity of horse breeds is a myth

The Lipizzaner is a horse breed described as pure although it comes from numerous successive crossbreedings. According to anthropologist Regina Bendix, this alleged purity stems from the values of the Austrian royal aristocracy applied to breeding. This argument of purity was even subsequently co-opted to support Nazi eugenics.
