Plants adapt their bodies to their environment

Allocation plasticity is the ability of a plant to modify the proportion of its tissues according to the needs of its environment. A plant growing under low light will thus develop wider leaves or taller stems. This remarkable tendency has notably been observed in genetically identical specimens of the species P.persicaria.
