Geophysiology was created to replace the name Gaia

Geophysiology is a discipline studying the interactions between life and the Earth. Founded in 1996 in Oxford by Peter Westbroek, it takes up the initial ideas of James Lovelock. The term Gaia was abandoned because it was considered contaminated for science by its association with the New Age.
