Girl with a Pearl Earring was nearly forgotten
Girl with a Pearl Earring is an oil painting created by the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer around 1665. This famous portrait was forgotten for more than two hundred years before the art collector Arnoldus Andries des Tombe rediscovered it. He then bequeathed it in 1903 to the Mauritshuis museum, located in The Hague in the Netherlands.
