A romance born from a fan letter

Francis Jammes is a poet who got engaged in 1907 to Geneviève Goedorp, a 24-year-old young woman from Bucy-le-Long. She had written to him to express her admiration after the death of Charles Guérin, triggering an assiduous correspondence and then a meeting in Pau. The engagement was announced on August 19, 1907, in front of the Grotto of Massabielle, before a wedding celebrated on October 8 of the same year in Bucy-le-Long.
