Google Street View has an ancestor dating from 1978

The Aspen Movie Map is a hypermedia created in 1978 that prefigures Google Street View. Developed at MIT and operating on videodisc, it allowed the user to move virtually through the streets. This innovative application thus offered a digital exploration of the city of Aspen in Colorado.
