The Memex anticipated hypertext in 1945

The Memex is a futuristic electromechanical desk imagined in 1945 by Vannevar Bush to store thousands of works on microfilm. This device was intended to allow its user to associate data with each other and to record searches, thus prefiguring current hyperlinks. Thanks to this device, its inventor hoped to offer a significant intimate supplement to the memory of researchers.
