Bacteria produce both the poison and the antidote

Antibiotic resistance is a natural phenomenon and long predates its use by humanity. The microorganisms secreting these molecules simultaneously produce the enzymes necessary to resist them and survive their own weapons. In 2016, analyses conducted by M. Drancourt thus proved the existence of ancient resistance to β-lactams, glycopeptides, tetracyclines, and macrolides in the human microbiota for centuries.
