The founding book of animal studies dates from 1975

Animal studies find their origin in the animal liberation movement and ethical questions about our coexistence with other species. The Australian philosopher Peter Singer formalized this approach in 1975 with his work Animal Liberation. This founding text extends the utilitarian reflections of Jeremy Bentham on the consideration of pleasure and pain for sentient beings.
