Ten million tons of iron ore still lie dormant on Raasay

Raasay houses iron ore deposits that contain siderite and chamosite. These mineral beds were the subject of commercial exploitation at the beginning of the 20th century. The reserves of this ore still present on the island are today estimated at 10 million tons.
