The word algorithm comes from the name of a Persian mathematician

The algorithm is a term whose genesis dates back to the Middle Ages and the translations of the works of Al-Khwârizmî. From the middle of the XIIth century, Latin expressions derived from his name such as algorismus or alchorismus appeared in Europe to designate the Indian calculation method using nine digits and zero. This word then evolved to signify the mechanism governing the functioning of organized thought.
