Mademoiselle is a title of civility traditionally attributed to a young girl or an unmarried woman. Its use in administrative documents was abandoned by several countries following protests linked to its sexist nature. Switzerland led the movement in 1973, followed by Quebec in 1976, France in 2012, then Brussels and Wallonia in 2015.
