A silo explosion levels a port site in France

The Blaye tragedy is the most spectacular example of a silo explosion that occurred in France in the port sector. On August 20, 1997, a vertical silo on the right bank of the Gironde exploded following the combustion of grain dust. This accident caused 11 deaths and immense material damage that required the entire site to be razed.
