Half of global food production is wasted

Food waste concerns half of global production which is not consumed, according to the United Nations Environment Programme. This phenomenon inflates global demand and exerts additional pressure on prices. This situation adds to other factors such as the speculation denounced in 2008 by Nicolas Sarkozy and Jean Ziegler.
