Cold weather triggers hunger to produce heat

A drop in outside temperature can trigger a feeling of hunger in humans. This phenomenon is explained by the fact that 60 percent of the energy produced during the transformation of nutrients is converted into heat. This energy conversion thus allows the body to warm up when the environment cools down.
