Sahel heat directly reduces harvests

Millet and sorghum suffer a 10 percent drop in yield as soon as a 2 degree rise occurs during the rainy season. This drop in production comes from water and thermal stress combined with increased evapotranspiration of the flora. In the event of prolonged drought in the Sahel, this fall in agricultural production can reach 20 to 50 percent.
