The invention of canning dates back to 1810

Appertization is a food preservation process developed in 1810 by Nicolas Appert. The inventor did not know the scientific principles behind how his method worked and the technique did not yet bear the name of canning. This invention nevertheless had a considerable impact on food preservation techniques throughout the world.
