A painting sold for 52 million dollars is called a study

Francis Bacon is an artist who called most of his most important finished works studies. One of his major canvases is thus titled Study after Velázquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X. This large-scale painting was sold at auction for 52.7 million dollars.
