The device model accounts for one sixth of the time

Experiments conducted with a dummy I/O port, such as port 0x22e, allowed for the analysis of the cost of I/O accesses in virtual machines. This study revealed that the device model represents only nearly one sixth of the total time, or 51.4K cycles. It is actually the dom0 process switch that constitutes the main performance problem.
