A Brazilian cat almost went to space in 1959

The cat Flamengo is a feline that almost became the first animal of its species to travel beyond the atmosphere. Brazilian Army Colonel Manuel dos Santos Lage had planned its flight aboard the rocket Félix I on January 1, 1959. The flight was finally cancelled due to ethical considerations linked to the use of a cat.
