The current geological period is named the age of pollution

The French biologist Maurice Fontaine proposed naming the current epoch the Molysmocene, which means the age of pollution. This name reflects the idea that future paleontologists will discover mostly immense quantities of waste rather than human fossils. At the same time, he suggested naming the era opened in 1957 the Cosmozoic in reference to the extremophile microorganisms involuntarily transported into space by our spacecraft.
