Wine and tripe for the French soldiers
The diet in the French armies provided for official food substitutions according to supply difficulties. Soldiers could thus replace their four hundred grams of meat with three hundred grams of tripe à la mode de Caen or smoked herring. The ration also evolved in 1914 with the appearance of a daily portion of twenty-five centiliters of wine.
