The birth of the waterfall model

The waterfall model is an IT project management method that takes place in successive stages. Its first formal description was written in 1970 by Winston W. Royce, who was nevertheless seeking to demonstrate its shortcomings. It is paradoxically following this criticism that the term became popularized and was adopted in 1985 by the United States Department of Defense.
