A 1970s board game uses hidden magnets

The board game Shogun is a game of pawns on an 8x8 square board created in 1979 by Teruo Matsumoto. Magnetic bars placed under the board interact with movable pivots located inside the pieces. With each move, the pieces rotate to display a new number that indicates their future range.
