The Ogham alphabet could date back to the 1st century BC

James Carney suggests that Ogham dates back to the 1st century BC. This hypothesis is based on the Táin Bó Cúailnge, an Irish epic transcribed in the 11th century where the hero Cúchulainn uses both a war chariot and Ogham. However, war chariots were no longer used in Ireland after the 1st century BC.
