A very strict Puritan primer

The New-England Primer is a school textbook from the past associating the learning of reading with austere religious principles. Each letter of the alphabet is illustrated there by a woodcut and a moralizing couplet. The letter F thus serves to teach children that the idle fool is whipped at school.
