Carl von Linné formerly classified cetaceans as plagiures

Carl von Linné once classified cetaceans in a group named plagiures. This taxon gathered aquatic animals equipped with a flat tail, provided with lungs but lacking scales, which were then considered as fish. This term had been used since at least the 15th century to designate these species because of their tail which is very flattened horizontally.
