The yuri genre takes its name from a gay magazine

Yuri is an artistic genre centered on intimate relationships between women. The term comes from the lily, which had symbolized purity since Japanese Romanticism. In 1976, the gay magazine Barazoku used the word for the first time through a column dedicated to female readers.
