The Yonaguni pony lives secluded on a single island

The Yonaguni is a small local pony whose population is found exclusively on the island of Yonaguni-jima. A study by Uppsala University conducted for the FAO in 2010 classified it among the critically endangered breeds. To counter this risk, a 2016 census counted 130 heads, and a few specimens were placed at the Okinawa Zoo and Museum.
