The Yonaguni horse is threatened with extinction

The Yonaguni is a small Japanese horse native to the island of Yonaguni in the Ryūkyū archipelago. Once used for agricultural work, it nearly disappeared with the arrival of motorization before an association was created for its preservation in 1975. In 2016, only 130 individuals remain in the north and east of the island.
