A ruler named after a prehistoric weapon

The atlatl is a throwing device that extends the human arm to increase the speed of a projectile. This weapon occupied a central place in the city-state of Teotihuacan, to the point that one of its rulers was called Spearthrower Owl. The use of this tool was then transmitted to the Maya civilizations, which employed it notably at the beginning of battles.
