Modern Coptic is pronounced in the Greek style

The pronunciation of the Coptic language was artificially brought closer to that of modern Greek in the middle of the XIX century. This transformation responded to a project of merger between the Greek Orthodox Church and the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt. This Hellenization was led by Pope Cyril IV and the teacher Arian Girgis Moftah.
