Ancient hornbooks have become extremely rare

The ancient hornbook is a wooden educational tool of which almost nothing remains today. These objects were destroyed in large numbers after their replacement by new teaching tools, so that almost no visible traces of them existed anymore. During the Caxton Celebration Exhibition in London in 1877, the organizers therefore had to settle for four copies for their exhibition.
