Hornbooks were the first books for children

A hornbook is a visual aid presenting all the symbols of an alphabet in alphabetical order, followed by words starting with the designated letter. These small books served as a widely used teaching tool for children from the 15th to the 19th century. They then constituted the very first texts left at their disposal for their personal use.
