The great Australian transcontinental railway line
The Adelaide-Darwin railway line is a 2,975 km rail axis connecting Adelaide to Darwin. This continuous transcontinental axis only became a full reality in 2004 upon the opening of the final section connecting Alice Springs to Darwin. It is used today by Aurizon freight trains as well as by the passenger train The Ghan.
