Stock photo agencies compete with professionals

Claudia Menashe looked for photos to illustrate bird flu for the National Health Museum in Washington. She discovered that she could obtain fifty-six images for about one dollar each on iStockphoto, thus abandoning the rates of a professional photographer. The latter understood that he could not compete with amateurs equipped for modest sums and refocused on commissioned work.
